It's really exciting for Florida homeschoolers to have options for scholarships that allow them to have about $8,000 each school year to use toward educational expenses that are approved per the purchasing guide. The Personalized Education Program is a new school choice option in Florida that went into effect on July 1, 2023. For short, we call it the PEP scholarship. Parents can still choose to homeschool by registering under their county's home education department by way of sending in a Letter of Intent form. However, they will not receive the $8,000 Education Spending Account. If parents want to homeschool under PEP, they have to apply for the PEP scholarship through either Scholarship Funding Organizations, Step Up For Students or AAA. The PEP scholarship could only take a maximum of 20,000 students in the 2023-24 school year. In the 2024-25 school year, PEP can fund a maximum of 60,000 students. Then each year following, PEP will add another 40,000 students, so essentially anyone who wants to homeschool in Florida and receive these scholarship funds will be able to. PEP students must follow a different set of requirements than Home Education students. More to come...
